Fifth-annual “EntreCon” held in Belize City

By BBN Staff: Yesterday, the Belize Trade & Investment Development Services (BELTRAIDE) and its Small Business Development Center, Belize (SBDCBelize) held the 5th Annual National Entrepreneurship Convention (EntreCon 2019).

EntreCon 2019 was held at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel under the theme “Engage, Exchange, Empower.”  The event gathered entrepreneurs of all business types and all sizes of operations for a day of advice, testimonials from successful entrepreneurs, panel discussions, and networking.

Dr. Leroy Almendarez, executive director of BELTRAIDE, said that the conference could serve as an important learning experience for entrepreneurs, who can use the advice of their peers to take their businesses to the next level.

“We want them to leave here knowing that empowerment can come from within you. We want them to develop that courage to take a chance on themselves,” Almendarez said.

He noted that empowering entrepreneurs is beneficial to Belize for economic development.

Jorge Gentle, senior business advisor at SBDC Belize said that the organization has two main functions, business advisory and capacity building through workshops and trainings.  Gentle said that persons with a business idea can come to the center free of cost to speak with an advisor and gave the assurance that SBDC Belize signs confidentiality agreements to protect the ideas of persons engaging the center.

The event was followed by a networking mixer.
