By BBN Staff:  Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD), a non profit, non-Governmental organization recognized for its valuable contribution to the protection and preservation of Belize’s natural resources is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

FCD is a small group of committed Belizeans who focus on protecting and conserving the Chiquibul forest in Western Belize.

Today, FCD hosted its Annual General Meeting at the San Ignacio Resort hotel in San Ignacio.

Representatives from several partner organizations including Water Shed Alliances and Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) among others were present at the meeting.

Outgoing president, David Gibson, shared the success of initiatives that FCD pioneered including the Friends of Vaca that assisted 45 farmers in the Vaca Plateau area, environmental awareness and education and exchange programs.

Gibson also extended gratitude to all partners who support FCD.

He especially thanked FCD’s Executive Director, Rafael Manzanero for his invaluable commitment and the FCD staff for their amazing work.

Special guest at the event was Acting British High Commissioner, Claire Bruce who said that the British High Commission is proud of the work that FCD continues to engage in and is proud to work with FCD.

Bruce also congratulated the FCD environmental youth group for winning the Club of the Year award at the National award ceremony held last night.

Bruce ended by extending congratulations to the organization for completing its 20 year milestone.
