Bandits advance to Premier League final on away goals

Posted: Sunday, December 1, 2019. 8:53 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Belmopan Bandits played out a tense and niggly second leg semifinal versus San Pedro Pirates which would not end in their favor.

But they are in the final after losing 1-0 to an own goal by team captain Dalton Eiley, who sliced past Shane Orio in goal when trying to clear in the 82nd minute at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium.

With the stronger strike force, the Bandits tried to put the game out of sight early, but the Pirates’ defense held firm.

While they had greater possession the Pirates could do nothing with it, shooting only five times and three on target compared to 14 and five for Bandits.

Referee Amir Castilla and his crew called 50 fouls between the two teams and issued 14 yellow cards in total.

Bandits await the winner of the Verdes-Altitude tie in San Ignacio Sunday afternoon, finely poised at 1-1. Top goalscorer Mariano Landero is back for Verdes and aims to be the difference-maker in this matchup.
