William “Danny” Mason and accused co-conspirators to learn fates Tuesday

By Aaron Humes: The murder trial for William “Danny” Mason; Ernest Castillo; the Fernandez brothers Terrence and Keiron; and Ashton Vanegas, all charged with the murder by decapitation of Pastor Llewelyn Lucas in 2016, concludes on Tuesday morning, December 3, before Supreme Court Justice Antoinette Moore in Belmopan.

Justice Moore tried the case alone starting in March and beginning at 10:00 a.m. will pronounce on the evidence presented in court by both sides and whether the men are jointly guilty of murder.

All pleaded ‘not guilty’ but Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl-Lynn Vidal presented evidence ranging from surveillance to witness testimony intended to link all five men to the murder, and prove they acted in concert to help Mason get rid of a friend who may have turned into a liability after being injured while working on his farm.

For their part, the defense – attorneys Dexter Todd, Bryan Neal, Illiana Swift, Norman Rodriguez, and Baja Shoman – deferred comment from all the co-accused except for Mason and Keiron Fernandez, who both gave unsworn testimony and denied their involvement.

His single defense witness, a former Belize U.S. Embassy security agent recounted conversations with Mason in which he, Mason, said he was being framed by no less than former business partner and Minister of National Security John Saldivar – a charge the Minister expressly denies.

BBN will have news of the verdict as soon as it is delivered on Tuesday morning.
