Former Belmopan Mayor shaken up after armed robbery

Posted: Tuesday, December 10, 2019. 3:19 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Former Belmopan Mayor, Anthony Chanona has been left shaken up after he was robbed and held at gunpoint last night.

A report from Plus TV News noted that Chanona was leaving a church service and while walking toward his pick-up truck, two men approached him.

One of the men was armed with a gun and demanded Chanona’s belongings.

Chanona managed to grab the gun and a struggle ensued. That is when Chanona fell to the ground and yelled for help. The men then escaped.

In an interview with our colleagues at Plus TV, Chanona said that he plans to use this frightening experience as a platform to address the larger issue of crime within the capital city of Belmopan.

He is scheduled to meet with Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams and the business community.
