Orlando Salazar, 28, charged for robbing a police officer

Posted: Friday, December 13, 2019. 4:49 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Orlando Salazar, 28, one of two men who the police believe tried to rob police constable Javier Marroquin, was charged with attempted robbery when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts Anderson. Salazar pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was released on a bail of $5,000 and his case was adjourned until February 13, 2020.

The incident occurred on December 1st. Marroquin and two other police officers were socializing on East Collet Canal Street when a man sneaked up behind Marroquin and poked him in his side with an object in an aggressive manner. Marroquin said that the man and another man, who appeared to be his accomplice, ran when he turned around.

On December 3rd, Dillon Diamond was charged with the same offense.

Salazar is no stranger to the police. In February he was freed of a charge of murder when the charge was withdrawn in the magistrate court. The charge was for the death of Windell Gibson Jr, who was shot and killed in 2017.
