Mark Waight beats another charge of attempted murder

By Aaron Humes: Twenty one year old Mark Waight was released today after being found not guilty of the attempted murder of Jamilia Neal at a shop on Caesar Ridge Road in 2015.

Jamilia Neal testified that she and another woman were at the shop when the shooter fired and hit her left shoulder, her left hip and her left elbow.

Neal directly identified Waight as the shooter but noted that he had a shirt over his head; a second witness testified that she did not see the shooter’s face as it was covered by a shirt.

Waight gave an unsworn testimony denying the offense, and his sister testified that her brother, Mark Waight, was with her more than 200 miles away in Punta Gorda Town at the time.

Supreme Court Justice Collin Williams ruled that he did not find Neal’s testimony credible and there was not enough to satisfy a conviction. Waight had no legal representation. Senior Crown Counsel Shanice Lovell represented the Crown.

Waight, then a minor, was also charged with the murder of Amandala journalist Kareem Clarke in 2016 but was acquitted earlier this year.
