Cold front sets in with cool, windy and rainy conditions

Posted: Thursday, December 19, 2019. 7:45 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Break out the sweaters, jackets, ponchos, and umbrellas, as the cold front which started crossing Belize last night sets in for at least the next two days.

Forecaster Crystal Rosalez of the National Meteorological Service projects continuing cool, windy and moist conditions countrywide, though shower activity is expected to gradually decrease later today.

Over the next 24 hours, skies will be generally cloudy this morning and partly cloudy tonight. It will be cool and windy with light to moderate rain over most of the central and south of Belize and offshore this morning, decreasing over the mainland this afternoon, then fair tonight, reduced to possible isolated showers or periods of light rain along the south coast and offshore.

Winds are blowing from the north to northwest at 15 to 25 knots and gusty. Sea state is rough; a small craft warning is in effect for all coastal areas.

High temperatures for much of Belize will only reach 75 degrees Fahrenheit, 70 in the hills. Tonight’s temperatures are 68 degrees along the coast, 64 over inland areas and 60 in the hills.

Tides will be low at 5 past 10 this morning, then high at 4:20 this afternoon, low later tonight at 10:46, then high around 4:35 Friday morning.

The Sun sets this evening at 5:22; the Moon sets at 12:30 this afternoon before rising around 12:52 early Friday. The Sun rises later at 6:17.

The outlook through Friday night is for generally fair, windy and cool conditions with little to no rainfall.

Our thanks to Crystal Rosalez and her colleagues at the Weather Bureau.
