By Aaron Humes: For many, Christmas will not be bright due to current economic circumstances.
The Salvation Army Corps steps in at these critical junctures, particularly at Christmas time.
This morning, hundreds of residents gathered at the church’s various offices – Regent Street, Cemetery Road and on the Northside – to receive hampers of non-perishable items such as rice, beans, flour, sugar, and canned goods among others for the basics of a Christmas dinner.
The hampers are one of the two manifestations of the Salvation Army’s work at this time of the year – the other being the annual Children’s Christmas party.
Both are funded by the generous contributions of corporate and personal citizens, the latter through the annual Kettle Appeal, which is ongoing through Christmas Eve.
