By BBN Staff: Minister of National Security, John Saldivar issued a statement applauding the Belize Coast Guard after five people, reported missing at sea, were rescued.

Around 2:30 a.m. the vessel sank while the occupants were fishing near Water Caye area.

After the distress call, search efforts commenced immediately and they were found drifting in the sea about 10 miles southeast of Belize City.

Fortunately, all persons were found alive but extremely fatigued, dehydrated and on the verge of hypothermia. They were transported to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

“The Belize Coast Guard just successfully concluded a search and rescue mission at sea that saved the lives of five persons lost at sea since yesterday!!! Kudos to the Coast Guard. Christ (Mas) is alive,” Saldivar expressed.
