By BBN Staff: The National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) announced that the Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve closed at noon today and will not reopen until tomorrow.

NICH explained that the site closed early to allow the staff to attend the funeral and pay their last respects to their coworker, park ranger Manuelito Ye.

Ye, a resident of Bullet Tree, Cayo, died as a result of a road traffic accident on the morning of Saturday, December 14.

Ye was knocked down by a vehicle and received serious head and body injuries.

He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment but later died of his injuries.
