BREAKING: Two officers reportedly shot in Santa Cruz

By BBN Staff: Reports to BBN is that two officers, at least one of which is a BDF soldier, have been shot and injured in an incident which unfolded in Santa Cruz, Orange Walk a short while ago.

According to eyewitness reports, Belizean authorities were pursuing ‘contrabandistas’ to confiscate a load of goods. The ‘contrabandistas’ reportedly crossed over into the Mexican side of the border and left their cargo behind.

BBN understands that while authorities were in the process of recovering the load, the men returned and opened fire on the Belizean authorities, injuring the two officers in the process.

Villagers have reported a heavy police presence in the village. Other details so far have been scarce.
