Over $16,000 in cash and other items stolen from tourists in San Pedro

By BBN Staff: Authorities are investigating a report of armed robbery in San Pedro.

Police reports indicate that on Friday, December 20, United States national Paul Maurl and his family left a resort in San Pedro to go fishing on the north tip of San Pedro Island.

Maurl said that on their way back to the resort, four masked men armed with a gun and machete emerged from the bushes and robbed them of all their belongings.

The thieves stole assorted jewelry, fishing gear, cash and credit card; all items to a total value of US $16,465.

The thieves also held up a second golf cart that drove up to where Maurl and his family were.

The victims of the second golf cart were identified as United States national Mark Knaus and Belizean, Miguel Gongora.

The thieves took jewelry, electronics, tools, and other personal documents from the second golf cart totaling $1,170.

Police are investigating.
