San Ignacio family seeks assistance for anemic son

By BBN Staff: A San Ignacio family is desperate for public assistance for their three-year-old son, Jahziel Choj, who was diagnosed with chronic anemia in August.

According to Yesenia Canchan, Choj’s mother, they only became aware of Jahziel’s condition after he took a fall while riding his bike several months ago. That injury did not heal up right away and led doctors to eventually diagnosing him with anemia.

He was diagnosed at the La Loma Luz hospital in Santa Elena and doctors have advised that he needs urgent evaluation by a hematologist outside of Belize. The family has since been trying to get Jahziel to the St. Jude children’s hospital in the U.S. but need public assistance in financial aid to handle the expenses to get him there.
