Merry Christmas: light bill stable for New Year

Belize Electricity Limited

Posted: Wednesday, December 25, 2019. 9:26 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: At this time last year, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) approved a rate hike of 7 percent for Belize Electricity Limited (BEL), later revised slightly downward after widespread objection.

The 2019 Annual Review Proceeding will feature no such change as agreed by both producer and regulator, according to Channel 7 News.

In a press release from the PUC, the regulator notes that on December 10th, BEL made a submission to them that there should be no amendments to the currently-approved mean electricity rate of 41.51 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The PUC agrees, and so no adjustments to the rates have been made for the period of January 1 to June 30, 2020.

If you feel differently, you can submit written comments on the final draft to the PUC at its office on Gabourel Lane in Belize City, or email them at [email protected]. The deadline for written comments is January 3, 2020.
