Man charged for hit and run that killed Manuel Ye

By BBN Staff: Just before Christmas, a man was charged for the fatal hit and run that claimed the life of Manuel Ye.

Ernesto Urbina was arraigned on several charges including two counts of grievous harm, manslaughter, driving without due care and attention, failure to provide a specimen, and failure to render aid in the Benque Viejo Magistrate’s Court on Christmas Eve.

Due to the nature of the offense, the court could not take a plea and Urbina was granted bail in the sum of $10,000. He is scheduled to return to court in February 2020.

On the morning of December 14, Urbina allegedly hit Ye, who worked as a ranger at the Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve, causing serious head and body injuries. Urbina allegedly sped off after the incident, while Ye was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital but died while receiving treatment.
