Bowen and Bowen donating water to Caye Caulker residents during water crisis

Posted: Tuesday, December 31, 2019. 4:46 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, B&B Beverages, a Bowen & Bowen Company, announced that it would be donating water to the residents of Caye Caulker as the island continues to experience a water crisis.

The company announced this morning that it would be working with the Caye Caulker Village Council do distribute Crystal Water according to the needs of homes and businesses. The donation is a total of 3,720 (5-Gallon) bottles and 7,680 (1.75 Litre PET) bottles. The company dispatched an emergency barge to the island which should arrive sometime today.

“Last night, when we heard the news that Caye Caulker was experiencing a water shortage, we wanted to do something to help our fellow Belizeans, especially during this Holiday Season when they are hosting so many of our tourists. We hope our donation of Crystal Water brings some relief to the Caye Caulker Village,” Michael H. M. Bowen, President / CEO of Bowen & Bowen Limited said.

According to Belize Water Services Limited (BWSL), the crisis happened because the main drive shaft at the Caye Caulker Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant broke. Though BWS deployed a team and a replacement shaft, that shaft was said to be slightly out of alignment and prone to failure. A new shaft had been ordered and should arrive within the week.
