Duck Run residents make donations to homeless in Belize City

Posted: Thursday, January 2, 2020. 9:48 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Residents of Duck Run village in Cayo decided to spread some after-Christmas cheer this New Year by distributing care packages to homeless and needy persons in Belize City.

Jorge Perez, Wilder Berganza Luis Perez Ever Tobar, Josue Smith, and Edwin Villata do not belong to any named organization or charity but wanted to make a difference during the holiday season. Perez, who spearheaded the initiative, purchased the items out of his own pocket, which included blankets, towels, and some food.

“This is something that we wanted to do a long time ago and now this year we had the opportunity to do it…” Villata told our newsroom, “it’s important because we can see that they really need something at least to cover themselves from the cold.”

They distributed around 30 care packages and noted that if the public supports the initiative they can accomplish much more.
