Cayo Animal Welfare Society hosting clinics

Posted: Friday, January 3, 2020. 11:21 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Pet owners in San Ignacio, Santa Elena, and the surrounding villages can get low-cost spay and neutering services this month through a special offer from the Cayo Animal Welfare Society (CAWS).

The four-day spay and neuter clinics are being held on January 12, 13, 15 and 16 between the hours of 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Santa Elena Sporting Complex. The cost is only $10 per animal, with a total of 50 animals to be seen each day. CAWS asks that all animals be leashed or kept in a container of some kind like a box or cage.

Animal owners are advised to keep their pets from eating anything the night before the surgery; however, they can drink water. The organization also notes that pet owners are to remain at the venue with their pet until it is released from the veterinarian.

CAWS is a major advocate for spaying and neutering animals as it keeps the numbers of unwanted and stray pets low, which in turn minimizes incidents of animal cruelty in Belize. Interested persons can call 669-1468, email the organization at [email protected] or visit the CAWS Facebook page.
