By BBN Staff: The weather was the picture-perfect setting for the 1st annual Mesopotamia New Year’s Day Football Youth Cup held at the Albert Hoy Football field.
Four U18 & four U12 teams played their hearts out for a 5 foot tall Fifa replica trophy, gold medals and cash.
Legendary footballers such as Dubu Thomas refereed the games that came down to the wire in both U12 & U18.
Jungle walked away with the Championship trophy, gold medals and cash for the U18 and City Boys took home the same for the U12.
UDP aspirant for the area Shyne Barrow says there was no better way to start 2020 than engaging the Mesopotamia Youth in sports.
He went on to say “such engagement could be the difference between life or death for at-risk youth on the south side of Belize City.”
Barrow says “Belize has world-class talent that just needs to be developed and it starts right here right now with my Mesopotamia Youth.”
Congratulations to the winners and all the participants!
