Attorney General considering action on ‘drug plane’ reference made by Johnny Briceno

Posted: Thursday, January 9, 2020. 5:28 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: After publicly demanding the evidence Leader of the Opposition John Briceño has which informed his claim in his New Year Address that certain government officials are behind the regular landing of drug planes in the country – and not getting it – Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte has switched to demanding an apology instead.

But as we have reported elsewhere, Briceño told reporters on Wednesday that he’s not getting one.

Pressed as to what legal action the Government could take, Peyrefitte said it was still under consideration.

Speaking with us, the chief legal officer called the claim “a blatant lie” and “irresponsible…outrageous” and that any right-thinking Belizean would find it offensive.

The Attorney General went on to say that the comments brought disrepute not only to the Government and United Democratic Party but to the nation as a whole and that it was based on nothing concrete.
