John Briceno: Apologize for what?

Posted: Thursday, January 9, 2020. 7:31 am CST.

By BBN Staff: As is customary, Prime Minister Dean Barrow and Opposition Leader, John Briceno both offered their New Year’s addresses to ring in 2020.

While the PM’s message was one of success for the Government of Belize, Briceno’s message noted the steady increase of crime and violence in Belize.

Among the many issues Belize is facing, Briceno stated, is the recurring reports of drug plane landings in the country.

“ We have credible information which confirms that these illegal landings were being facilitated by corruption in the highest level of the UDP Government,” Briceno said.

That particular comment did not sit well with UDP officials. Attorney General Micheal Peyrefitte has publicly called on Briceno to present proof of his allegations within 24 hours.

That time has since lapsed and in an interview with Channel 5 News, Briceno said that he sees no reason why he should apologize.

“I don’t see anything to apologize about,” Briceno said.

Briceno’s speech also touched the Sanctuary Bay scandal and the ramifications that came with the scandal.

“Sanctuary Bay is but one of the many legacy scandals of this UDP Government,” Briceno noted.
