Applications open for Taiwan ICDF Scholarship Program 2020

By BBN Staff: The Taiwan Embassy in Belize announced that the application program of the 2020 Taiwan ICDF (International Cooperation and Development Fund) Scholarship Program at undergraduate or graduate level for qualified Belizeans is now officially launched.

These scholarships are for enrollment at universities in Taiwan, commencing in September 2020.

Applicants need to fill out and submit the TaiwanICDF Scholarship application form and related documents to the Embassy before March 15, 2020.

The 32 Programs from 21 universities with respective deadlines are listed below:

Important regulations and notices:

  1. Scholarship recipients will be provided with a round trip economy class airfare, housing, tuition fees, credit fees, insurance, textbook costs, and a monthly allowance which varies due to different study programs.
  2. These Scholarships are all basically English-taught programs.
  3. Applicants are required to apply simultaneously for both the (1) Scholarship with the Embassy and (2) directly with the University for selected program of choice before the respective deadlines.
  4. Applicants need to fill out and submit the TaiwanICDF Scholarship application form and related documents listed below to the Embassy before March 15, 2020.
  5. For the TaiwanICDF Scholarship Application form, visit the link to the online application: http://web.icdf.org.tw/ICDF_TSP/WelcomeStart.aspx. Please fill out all the pages of the application form and print it out and sign it. After March 15, 2020, the above-mentioned website will be shut down and cannot apply afterward.
  6. For the University application for the intended program of study, visit the website: http://www.icdf.org.tw/ct.asp?xItem=12505&CtNode=30316&mp=2, and click: “2020 TaiwanICDF Scholarship Brochure”. Applicants must submit their application and required documents by post to the University intended to study by themselves before the application deadline of the respective university. Every applicant can only apply for one program.
  7. Students who will be scheduled to graduate from school in June 2020, are allowed to apply, and they need to submit the original school letter confirming date of graduation and transcript, both certified by the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs in Belmopan.
  8. For those whose diploma and transcripts were obtained in foreign countries are required to have their documents certified by the ROC (Taiwan) Embassy/Consulate (General)/Representative Office in that country.
  9. All the applicants must submit their application IN PERSON. Applications by post or delivered by another person will be rejected automatically.
  10. Current Scholarship recipients cannot continuously apply for the different level program, that is, no one is allowed to continuously apply at the same year when he or she just finishes his or her study in Taiwan. He or she must skip at least one year for next application.
  11. For those who have hypertension or other chronic diseases, their applications will be seriously examined.
  12. For the applicants whose applications are accepted, the Embassy will schedule appointments of formal interviews with the applicants as required by the above-listed programs. The interview date will be informed and is a must-do step in the process of the application. Applicants who fail to comply with this requirement will be rejected.

Duration of Scholarships:

The award periods for different study programs are listed below:

Undergraduate program: maximum of 4 years.

Master program: maximum of 2 years.

Doctoral Program: maximum of 4 years.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Be Belizean citizens (Overseas Chinese and Taiwanese nationals are not eligible).
  2. Is not the current recipient of a scholarship or subsidy being offered by any other government agencies or educational institutions in Taiwan.
  3. For undergraduate programs, they must possess a senior or vocational high school diploma; for graduate programs, must possess an undergraduate or graduate degree relevant to the intended area of study. The minimum GPA must be 3.0 or above, otherwise, the application will be regard as incomplete and rejected.
  4. Be in good mental and physical health and under the age of 50.
  5. For those who work in governmental agencies must submit the approval letter issued from their working agencies when delivering their application.
  6. No record of being canceled or disqualified for Taiwan-oriented scholarship, nor has been expelled from the University that the applicant had studied in Taiwan before.

Required Documents: (Must be original)

A complete application includes the following materials:

  1. Completed TaiwanICDF Scholarship Application Form (online application only and must be printed out and brought to the Embassy before March 15, 2020)
  2. Photocopy of the highest-level diploma certified by the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs in Belmopan.
  3. Original complete grade transcripts duly certified by the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs in Belmopan.
  4. Two (2) recommendation letters
  5. Itemized C. V. and resume (includes academic background and/or working experiences)
  6. Copy of passport


All required documents mentioned-above must be completed electronically or in typewritten format and submitted in a 10″ X 13″ sized envelope specifying intended program of study, no later than March 15, 2020, to Embassy of Taiwan,  #1 Taiwan Street, Belize City. Late and incomplete applications will be rejected.
