By BBN Staff: A publication in Scotland has highlighted Belize as one of its top places to visit for 2020, adding to a growing number of positive international mentions since the start of the new year.
The Herald, in its travel writing piece “Travel: Where to Go in 2020,” released this week, cited Belize as the “best for archaeological ruins and sustainable stays.”
“A mass of uninterrupted jungle lapped by the sparkling Caribbean Sea and fringed by coral reefs, this Central American country has developed slowly but surely, managing to keep its natural treasures intact,” the Herald said.
The piece also points out Belize’s environmental efforts such as the phase-out of single-use plastics and Styrofoam initiated last year, as well as the anticipated opening of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Blackadore Caye, which will feature a climate change research facility.
Notably, the piece inaccurately stated that the country’s first vegan resort is about to be launched; however, Belize already has a vegan resort, Serenity Retreats in Corozal, which has already gotten its own international recognition.
Founded in 1783, the Herald is the longest-running national newspaper in the world and is the eighth oldest daily paper on the planet.
