By BBN STaff: When 14-year-old Taishaun Miguel stepped on to a SouthWest airline flight over the holidays, he was on a mission to speak to the pilot. The second form student of Nazarene Highschool, like many students his age, has a dream – to one day become a pilot himself.
Miguel had a plan and sprung it into motion when he approached the flight crew with his request and two gifts to give to the pilot and co-pilot of the aircraft.
Pilot David Argyle was so impressed at the gesture that he not only gave Miguel an audience but also a tour of the cockpit. He also gave Miguel an email address to facilitate further inquiries as he pursues his dream.
Our newsroom spoke with Miguel, who explained that as a part of his overall goal to become a pilot, he must immerse himself in the world of aviation, which includes speaking to people in the field.
“Hearing from a captain himself only motivates me more and give me more determination to become a pilot. I will make my mom and my country proud of me one day when I realize my dream of becoming a pilot,” he said.
But his goals are far from self-serving. Miguel admits that he is pushing hard to realize his dream knowing that doing so will benefit his country and his peers.
“I am doing this always to help my fellow young people in my country Belize to not give up their dreams and to realize fighting and killing is not our only option,” Miguel added.
Breaking Belize News (BBN) wishes Miguel the best as he pursues his dreams and encourages young dreamers like him to do the same.
