Sixty countries including Belize congratulate President Tsai of Taiwan on her re-election

By BBN Staff: Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that over 60 nations have congratulated Taiwan’s re-elected President, Tsai Ing Wen on her election win.

Taiwan News noted that it was a great win for President Tsai who will be serving her last term as President since, in Taiwan, no person can become President for more than 2 terms.

President’s Tsai’s re-election is seen as a clear mandate to further the ‘pro-Independence’ move.

Taiwan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry noted that President Tsai was congratulated via phone calls and emails from 60 different countries’ representatives.

Those include U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu.

Countries that have also expressed their desire to continue friendly relations with Taiwan include, Eswatini, Palau, Nauru, Tuvalu, Marshall Islands, Paraguay, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, Haiti, Nicaragua, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent.

  Belize and Taiwan established diplomatic relations on October 12, 1989, and have enjoyed strong diplomatic friendship since then.
