Honduran migrant caravan arrives in Guatemala

By BBN Staff: Prensa Libre Guatemala reported today that a Honduran migrant caravan arrived in Guatemala today.

The caravan is headed to Guatemala’s border with Mexico in an attempt to reach the United States of America.

Several walking and some on trucks moved from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, to the border with Guatemala entered through Puerto Barrios and some moved on to Guatemala City while others reportedly moved to Peten.

The migrants claim that they are fleeing their country to escape poverty, crime and violence.

The caravan that is in Peten is reportedly moving to El Naranjo border to reach Mexico.

Guatemalan authorities reported that about 800 people traveled through the country.

The Migrant House in Santa Elena, Flores, Peten reported that they have treated some 500 migrants within the last few hours.

Guatemalan red cross also assisted them with travel information and medicine.

There is another group of 750 people that entered through Esquipulas and it is expected that about 150 people will enter through Izabal.
