Belize Youth Movement “Outraged” by Julian Cho audit report

Posted: Friday, January 17, 2020. 7:37 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Belize Youth Movement (BYM), the youth arm of the People’s United
Party (PUP), is furious over the results of the audit report regarding the missing funds from Julian Cho Highschool in Punta Gorda.

The BYM noted with concern the fact that it was reported that a member of the national sports council allegedly misappropriated $50 stipends that was supposed to be for athletes when they travel abroad to participate in sporting events. Those stipends reportedly added up to over $400,000.

“The BYM is calling for those involved in these scandalous and corrupt acts of enriching themselves at the expense of the people’s taxes, to be dealt with swiftly and with the fullest extent of the law,” the BYM said. “Finally, we demand that criminal charges be brought upon those whose names have been called in the Auditor General’s report. They
must be held accountable.”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow said this week that he has intentions to handing the report over to the police. The Julian Cho audit was a
major discussion in the meeting of the House of Representatives today. The report is expected to be made public following today’s meeting.
