By BBN Staff: The National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) has closed the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM Cave) archaeological site following concerns of rising river levels.

NICH issued the warning this morning noting that “In the last 45 minutes the river has risen four inches. The ATM cave will be closed as a safety precaution.”

NICH added that the public will be advised once the situation changes. The attention of all hoteliers, tour operators, and the general public is called to this announcement.
