By BBN Staff: Following yesterday’s sitting of the House of Representatives, Deputy Prime Minister and UDP leadership aspirant, Patrick Faber, answered questions from the media regarding a number of ongoing scandals which have brought the incumbent administration into question and disrepute, including the most recent Lev Dermen drama and of course, the Danny Mason saga.
Faber told the media directly that he has never received any financing from Mason, despite his associates Frank ‘Papa’ Mena, and leadership convention opponent, John Saldivar both having acknowledged accepting money from Mason for campaign financing in Mena’s case and for his football team in Saldivar’s case.
“I have categorically said to you, I have told this nation from the onset what my very limited exposure to Mr. Mason was. I think everybody in the country knows that but I was in no way connected with him, he was never a financier,” Faber said.
During the Mason trial, Mason had reportedly told a US federal agent that he gave donations to Saldivar, Mena and Faber. The claim was made in a statement that the agent gave as evidence during the trial. Earlier this week, Prime Minister Dean Barrow was also asked about the alleged donation to Faber from Mason, saying Faber has indicated to him that he never accepted any money from Mason and adding that Faber’s word was good enough for him.
