Elite Basketball returns as champions TigerSharks start defense of title

By Aaron Humes: San Pedro TigerSharks got off to winning ways in their first match of the 2020 National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) at home Saturday night.

They held off opponents the Belize City Defenders by 99 to 90.

Nigel Jones of the Defenders led all scorers with 27 points and 10 rebounds, assisted by 23 from Devin Daly and 16 from Farron Louriano.

San Pedro answered with center Martevius Adams’ 24 points and contributions from Francis Arana (15 points) and point guard Jihad Wright (13 points).

The full slate of games for next week sees Verdes of Cayo face Orange Walk Running Rebels on Friday night at 8:45, then a rematch of last season’s final with the Hurricanes hosting the TigerSharks at the Civic Center at 9:15. Saturday sees the debut of the Punta Gorda Panthers against the Belmopan Bandits at 9 p.m.
