By Aaron Humes: The Medical Council of India has de-recognized or de-listed two medical universities in Belize namely Columbus Central University based on the Airport Road, Ladyville, Belize District and Washington University of Health Sciences, based out of San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye.
Indian students attending these schools are now not able to be professionally licensed in India.
Both the Council and Embassy of India to Mexico and Belize received and noted several irregularities and deficiencies in the two universities including lack of staff and facilities including a proper laboratory.
Both as Columbus and as American Global University School of Medicine, its owners have been accused of running a diploma mill and participating in human trafficking and money laundering, charges it and the Belize Ministry of Education have denied.
Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action (COLA) when it was led by Geovannie Brackett, actively challenged the schools to produce their records and achievements, inviting threats of a lawsuit which never came to pass.
We understand the management of the two schools are working to be re-listed.
