Wins for Verdes and BDF in week 2 of Premier League

Posted: Monday, January 20, 2020. 8:28 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Premier League of Belize (PLB) is down to seven teams as the-now Corozal Valley Pride F.C. are sitting out the closing season tournament.

This creates a “week off” scenario twice in the regular season for the remaining teams and sub-champion Belmopan Bandits got to rest after their opening 11-0 shutout of Placencia Assassins.

And it got only marginally better for Placencia this week, losing a 3-2 decision at home to Belize Defence Force, which is getting its campaign started after playing a friendly versus the Valley Pride team last week.

In today’s other games, Verdes edged Wagiya 2-1 in Cayo, while on Saturday, Altitude and San Pedro Pirates played to a 1-1 draw.

The Opening Season champions have four points, ahead of Bandits and BDF on three; Altitude and San Pedro show 2, and Placencia none.

Next week’s matches are as follows: Altitude vs Wagiya, January 25, 7:30 at Michael Ashcroft Stadium; BDF vs Bandits, January 26, 4 p.m., MCC Grounds; Verdes vs San Pedro Pirates, January 26, 4 p.m., Norman Broaster Stadium; Placencia Assassins have the bye week.
