By BBN Staff: As more evidence of Belizean involvement comes out in the international fraud case of Lev Dermen in US courts, People’s United Party Leader John Briceño is calling on Prime Minister Dean Barrow to fire National Security Minister John Saldivar.

Briceñoheld a press briefing at his office today, saying that he himself does not have the authority to contact US officials and ask for the names of the Belizeans that allegedly received thousands of dollars from Derman’s scam, but that if the Prime Minister was serious about addressing corruption he could do so.

“The truth of the matter is the Prime Minister well knows what has happened in his government and once again he continues to try and cover up the corrupt,” Briceno said. “The Prime Minister needs to do the right thing and fire John Saldivar from the Cabinet, and John Saldivar needs to do something right for the first time, which is to resign from the National Assembly.”

Briceño’s comments come behind the emergence of new documents purporting to name Saldivar as one of the Belizean associates of Dermen involved in the fraud.

The Prime Minister released a statement earlier, saying that he could not fore Saldivar because the document circulation has not given any substantial proof that Saldivar was involved in any wrongdoing.
