Guatemalan bandits shot by Belizean authorities; police recover stolen vehicle and items

By BBN Staff: Quick response by Belizean authorities today led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and items that Guatemalan thieves stole from residents of Arenal.

According to reports, four Guatemalan thieves went to Arenal and invaded the home in the village. The thieves terrorized the family and stole their vehicle and other items. As they were headed back to Guatemala via Arenal, they met Belizean police officers.

The Belizean police set chase and fired shots at them. Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams said that police shot 2 of the bandits but the other 2 helped their injured companions and took them to safety across the border. Residents in Western Belize, particularly Succotz, Benque, and Arenal have been terrorized by several home invasions and vehicle thefts that occurred in 2019.
