By BBN Staff: United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo visited Jamaica on Wednesday and met with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and then hosted a discussion with Caribbean leaders including a representative from Belize.

During his address, Pompeo said that the US and the Caribbean nations can and should do much more together.

Referring to Holness’ address, Pompeo said that as Holness stated, the US and the Caribbean are natural allies.

“Now is the time to move forward with even closer ties. There’s so much opportunity,” Pompeo stated.

Pompeo further emphasizes US commitment to further develop that relationship with the Caribbean.

Secretary Pompeo stated, “We have shared values and an intertwined future, and there is much we can do together to advance democracy, human rights, prosperity, resilience, and security in the region.”

Belize was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wilfred Elrington.
