Jans Hotel clarifies: Guest passed all necessary airport screening before entering Belize

Posted: Tuesday, January 28, 2020. 1:58 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Last night, information spread like wildfire that a guest on Caye Caulker was suspected of having the novel coronavirus that originated in Wuhan, China.

Jans Hotel has since issued a statement informing all residents that after collecting all the necessary information, they are aware that the guest passed all necessary airport screening before entering Belize.

“We can ASSURE you that no Virus is on the island or at our hotel. We also want to clarify the false accusation being made about us mistreating the guest by removing him from the premises,” Jan’s said.

The hotel says that they are dealing with the matter in a professional manner.

Last week, the Ministry of Health in Belize activated a national surveillance team.

No confirmed case of the virus has been reported in the Caribbean or Central America; however, the outbreak is new and situations can change drastically on a day-by-day basis.
