Tsunami warning issued for several countries including Belize following Jamaica earthquake

By BBN Staff: The US National Weather Service’s Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a Tsunami advisory after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Jamaica.

According to the advisory, waves can reach, ” 0.3 to 1 meter (about 1 to 3 feet) above tide level for the coasts of Jamaica, Belize, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico and the Cayman Islands”. If a tsunami is generated it would reach the coast of Belize around 3:48 pm Belize time.

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) is asking islanders, such as those in San Pedro to stay out of the water.
