UDP prepares for national convention amidst ‘turbulent’ times

By BBN Staff: With only 8 days left for the United Democratic Party (UDP)’s national convention, the Barrow administration continues to be faced with mounting allegations of corruption and bribery within ministers of his cabinet.

As has been anticipated, with the convention day getting closer, supporters of National Security Minister, John Saldivar and supporters of Deputy Prime Minister, Patrick Faber have launched attacks at their respective opponents.

The UDP’s national convention will set an entire new structure for the party with three-time Prime Minister, Dean Barrow retiring and the base electing a new Party Leader, Deputy Party Leader, and Chairman.

Earlier this week, Faber came to his defense claiming that a ‘convicted criminal’ was behind a page that posted several allegations against him including one that claims that he knew international fraudster, Lev Dermen and exchanged text messages with him.

Shortly after that social media post, Shyne Barrow posted to his personal Facebook page, a missile directed at Faber.

“When you were arrested for beating and choking two women, one of who worked for you at the Ministry of Education the victims [sic] statement to police was recorded, medical examination certified but you claimed it was just an ALLEGATION! You were not fired based on an ALLEGATION!!!” Barrow said.

The new Party Leader that emerges victorious in the national convention will be tasked with re-uniting the party after the convention and taking the party into the general elections to be held sometime this year.
