Posted: Monday, February 3, 2020. 4:18 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The deadly novel coronavirus, believed to have originated in Wuhan, China has claimed over 350 lives.

Researchers developed a map to track the global spread of the virus worldwide.

According to that map, there have been 17,491 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus with cases in 27 countries including China. Of those 17,491 confirmed cases, mainland China is dealing with 17,308 cases.

There are now 11 cases of the novel coronavirus in the United States of America.

Around the world, medical experts are grappling to deal with the outbreak.

Several countries have activated their own quarantine plans to deal with the situation.

As the outbreak continues, more than 50 million people in China are under quarantine, travel restrictions are being issued from countries all over the world, and countries have begun evacuating their diplomats from China as the situation worsens.

The World Health Organization recently declared the coronavirus outbreak a global emergency and even Belize has begun to impose travel restrictions as the situation develops.

The novel coronavirus is a part of a family of viruses that are found in animals that made the cross-species jump to humans. The scientists say that the novel coronavirus has a mortality rate of between 2-3 percent and that those who have died from the virus had other conditions prior to contracting it that were contributing factors in their deaths.
