By BBN Staff: Forty Belizean artisans from Orange Walk participated in a seminar sponsored by the United States Embassy in Belize.

The entrepreneurship seminar was hosted over the weekend in Orange Walk and was held in partnership with NICH and Beltraide.

The two-day workshop was hosted by U.S. speaker and Nu Market Founder, Caroline Gutman.

Gutman is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nu Market. Nu Market is a social enterprise that expands women artisans’ market access by creating handbags that feature traditional handicrafts and funding women’s education.

Gutman is also an award-winning photojournalist and she holds a Master’s in International Relations from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor’s in Chinese and Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis.

In the seminar, Gutman offered tools and advice to local artisans interested in expanding their businesses while preserving Belize’s unique cultural and artistic traditions.
