Premier league leaders, Verdes and Bandits, slip up in week 4

Posted: Monday, February 3, 2020. 5:51 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: After dominant performances last week, the leaders of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) standings dropped points this week to unfancied contenders.

On Saturday, second place Belmopan Bandits fell 1-0 to Altitude F.C. in a rare home loss at Isidoro Beaton Stadium.

This afternoon Verdes fell behind 1-0 to winless Placencia Assassins in Placencia but rallied to claim a draw, 1-1.

And Wagiya defeated Belize Defence Force 3-1 behind the strike team of Gilroy “Bredda” Thurton and Jonard Castillo.

Verdes show eight points, with Bandits remaining in second ahead of Altitude due to heavier goal differential; both have six points. Wagiya leapfrog B.D.F. to fourth on five points, and while Placencia have their first points of the competition they remain below idle San Pedro Pirates.

Unusually for the League, it will be all Saturday games next week, and all Sunday afternoon games the week after. On Saturday night, February 8, San Pedro kicks off against Placencia at 7:30 p.m. and Altitude host B.D.F. at the same time in Independence, while at eight in Belmopan Bandits welcome Wagiya; Verdes have the week off.
