Student attacks teacher with pencil in Trial Farm

By BBN Staff: Education authorities in Orange Walk are addressing an issue that occurred last week at the Trial Farm Government School.

A Standard Two teacher was trying to stop a fight between two students when a nine-year-old student attacked her with a pencil.

The teacher grabbed the child’s hand to prevent him from attacking her and the child began to kick her in the leg leaving the teacher bruised.

In an interview with News5, the teacher said that the incident was not addressed immediately as should have been done.

“I believe that something like that happens, that needs to be addressed there—at that same time. But unfortunately, it wasn’t done that way,” the teacher said.

Following the incident, the teachers joined forces and asked for the situation to be addressed.

Officials from the Ministry of Education met with the teachers yesterday to discuss the incident and how teachers can deal with such situations.
