Territorial Volunteers thank Belize Coast Guard for efforts in illegal gillnet bust

Posted: Tuesday, February 4, 2020. 11:21 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, the Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) issued a statement thanking the Belize Coast Guard (BCG) for their efforts and role in the January 31 bust of illegal gillnets near Manatee Bar.

The arrested fishermen, two Guatemalans and a Belizean, not only had expired fishers licenses but also an assortment of gillnets, several of them longer than 1,000 feet.

“We, at the BTV, salute the Belize Coast guard for a job well done,” the statement said.

The group also encouraged other Belizeans to keep a watchful eye on our natural resources and call the BCG when they see something wrong in territorial waters.
