By BBN Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) issued a statement saying that Prime Minister Dean Barrow has noted the use of some remarks of his in an ad for one of the candidates for UDP leadership.
The statement comes after Deputy Prime Minister and UDP leader candidate, Patrick Faber published an ad in which PM Barrow says that Faber represents the future of the UDP.
Shortly after the ad aired, Barrow’s son, Shyne said in a statement that PM Barrow remains neutral.
That was followed by the statement issued by the UDP.
“Rt. Hon. Barrow wishes to point out that his quoted words were said many years ago in a particular context. He will not comment on the propriety of the use of those words in the current ad. But he makes absolutely clear that they should in no wise be interpreted as an endorsement of the candidate sponsoring the ad,” the statement noted.
The UDP says that Barrow is officially neutral in Sunday’s contest and regrets any misuse or misunderstanding of the quoted words.
The leadership campaign has intensified for John Saldivar and Patrick Faber as they race to become the next UDP party leader.
