By BBN Staff: Is the Association of Concerned Belizeans, commonly referred to as ACB, back for real?

Via its Facebook page, activated on February 4th 2020, the ACB announced that it has been “reactivated’ and had “purged” its membership.

According to the group, many of its former executives had become compromised politically and so it had to part ways with them. In fact, much of the former members of the ACB are now serving the current government in various capacities as Ministers, Senators, Ambassadors, head of statutory boards etc. Belizeans will recall that the ACB was born during the 2003-2008 Musa administration, that they raised and agitated on many issues of corruption and they helped to topple the Musa-led-PUP government.

The members of the new group is currently anonymous but they claim to have a new executive board and headquarters which will be made public in the coming weeks.

The ‘reactivated’ ACB claims that “given the increased perception of corruption and the vast cases of political impunity we could no longer sit on the sidelines.” The ACB social media post went on to state that “there has been far too many suspected cases of misfeasance. Far too many cases of over-night millionaires. Far too many cases of corruption.”

It is left to be seen if the ‘reactivated’ ACB will bring any pressure on the current administration which is facing a series of corruption scandals as it completes its third term in government.
