John Saldivar resigns as UDP Leader-elect; Is he still Minister of National Security?

Posted: Wednesday, February 12, 2020. 1:44 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: A statement issued minutes ago by John Saldivar to some of his supporters indicates that he has resigned as leader-elect of the UDP.

“In a Special Cabinet meeting today I informed the Prime Minister and colleagues of my decision to resign as the Leader-elect of the United Democratic Party. I have come to this decision after careful consideration and consultation with colleagues,” Saldivar said.

Saldivar says that he maintains his innocence of any wrongdoing, bribery or corruption.

But, Saldivar said that he feels that the negative attention being generated by this trial is overtaking the UDP and can hurt their chances in the upcoming general elections.

“I have therefore stepped aside to allow a new leader to be chosen. I thank all those who supported me during the recently concluded eadership Convention. It is unfortunate but life is real,” Saldivar added.

He says that once his name is cleared, he will resume the work of the UDP.

Coincidentally in the statement, Saldivar claims that he continues to serve as Minister of National Security.
