By BBN Staff: The Public Service Union (PSU), following a Supreme Court decision that the Corozal-based company Simplex Designs is the rightful owner of the Hiltop property in Belmopan, which houses its headquarters, has begun negotiations with Simplex and the Belmopan City Council.
PSU President Gerlad Henry said today that he could not go into details to keep from prejudicing any resolution that may result from the negotiations with the Belmopan City Council but could at least discuss the nature of its negotiations with Simplex.
“Thus far no eviction order has been presented to us,” Henry said. “We are also in negotiations with them, in fact, for them to perhaps look at affording us some time to evacuate the building.”
Those negotiations are the latest update since the early February court ruling, after which attorney for Simplex, Estevan Perrera, said the claim for eviction had already been filed. The dispute arose last year after the PSU learned that the Belmopan City Council had quietly sold the property that it had been leasing for decades. They went as far as to plea the intervention of Prime Minister Dean Barrow, however, the courts ultimately ruled in Simplex’s favor.
