By BBN Staff: Today, the Office the Prime Minister announced Changes to the Cabinet, following the resignation of National Security Minister, John Saldivar.

As previously reported, Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte takes on the role as the substantive Minister of National Security, while the Minister of State for the Ministry of National Security, Elodio Aragon Jr. will be responsible for the supervision of the Ministry’s
day-to-day management.

Minister of State, Omar Figueroa, has also been appointed as substantive Minister responsible for the portfolios of Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment, and Sustainable Development, while  Godwin Hulse will continue to continue to serve as the substantive Minister
responsible for the portfolios of Agriculture and Immigration.

Saldivar resigned from Cabinet last week following the release of text messages showing that he requested US$25,000 a month for two months from accused fraudster Lev Dermen, through one of Dermen’s associates. Saldivar maintains that he is innocent of corruption, stressing that he never denied receiving money, but that he denied he received the money in the furtherance of corruption.

Following a radio appearance this morning, he refused to take questions from the media.
