By BBN Staff: The National Student Union of Belize (NSUB) has fired back a press release at the University of Belize which refused to allow its students to participate in today’s protest led by the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB).
The university in its press release said that the memorandum entitled “Non-School Day” issued by the Ministry of Education was not applicable to tertiary level institutions.
Well according to the NSUB, that is highly insulting “gibberish.”
The NSUB’s statement goes on to allege that the university conceded to violating its student’s constitutional rights to freedom of conscience, expression, and assembly. It is further alleged that teachers at the university threatened students they would be penalized if they participated in today’s protest.
The NSUB has gone on record to condemn these claims and congratulate students from the university who walked out of classes to support the NTUCB.
